Knowing and learning

It is a rewarded feeling after completing Module One, time did fly without waiting for our hesitancy.  when I looked back at what was like throughout Module One, I have builded up a new habit of questioning and that really lead me into different world of learning. I was able to recognise what is my knowing and re-learn from that existing knowledge in different perspective and approach.

It was really interesting conversation on Skype discussion group last night even though it was 4am in my time-zone when my brain was not really awaked yet I have to admit. There were a number of questions and uncertainty feeling about knowing and learning but I can see a similarity in this conversation.

As a educator we come from different background, cultures, education, experiences etc...but we are facing with the same challenge of how to pass on the knowledge to different learning ability, because everyone are different in their own way and this topic had brought me to an deeper investigation in my final work " Personal Reflection" in Module One. It has comes to my mind that there are two type of teachers in education: teacher who teach how to embody knowledge  and teacher who give information. This is the big question for myself or some people out there need to ask to ourselves.

I totally agree  that  knowledge is influenced by who giving it and it is important how we mould and shape it into the person in-front of us. In addition, I believe it is always a both way give and take in any relationship, when the knowledge pass on to the student, they need to embody and experience the fact about that knowledge, in other word they totally know something before it becomes their knowledge. In this generation learning is about two way dialogue, it is more like an open environment to grow as individual and in contradiction teacher can always learn and gain an enormous experiences from their own students, believe it or not they are the most honest feedback that reflect directly on your teaching method.

We also embarked on the notion of being lost, It seem most of us found it in common.  And the suggestion is that rather giving solution teacher can allow this state of mind being itself, it is fine to be lost, nothing right or wrong in dancing as well as the slogan  "Dance is for everyone". This is a very typical concept in contemporary dance in my knowledge. I wonder if this apply to Classical Ballet and Merce Cunningham, Martha  Graham... I personally have doubted.

In addition to those knowledge and experiences I have accumulated through out last term, there are few interesting and useful points that I conclude this post here: leaning is about the process, the question can be without an definite answer, feedback is a way to let people to notice your work, to get a different respond or perspective from others. It does not have to be what is right or wrong.
